WeatherPlease remember that balloon flights are strictly weather dependent. We require calm surface winds in order to launch the balloon, and land safely. The wind direction also needs to be favourable to avoid flying into restricted air space, and avoid obstacles such as built up areas, mountains etc. If we are forced to cancel due to weather conditions, please understand that this is for your safety, as well as for the safety our pilots and crew members, and to avoid any damage to the balloon. It is not unusual for flights to be postponed due to the weather - this could be due to fast upper winds (which may not be visible from the ground), mist, cloud cover or poor visibility, rain or thunderstorms in the vicinity, or a wind direction which may pose a hazard to the safe landing of the balloon. The pilot's decision is final. We will never under any circumstances force a flight. Please keep this in mind for special occasions, and ensure you have a backup plan in place for proposals, surprise gifts etc. We do also offer gift certificates valid for 12 months in the event that a flight cannot take place on a particular day.
What to WearIt is best to dress in casual, comfortable clothes. Natural fibres such as cotton are preferable to synthetic fabrics such as nylon. Please do not wear white clothes or white shoes as you will be landing in farmlands and it will be dusty or muddy. Long pants such as jeans and old, closed shoes are best. You will need to climb in and out of the balloon basket - skirts and dresses make this very difficult. Please no high heels, open sandle type shoes or flip flops. You can wear something warm to begin with, but it will get warmer once in the air due to the radiant heat from the burners. It is advisable to wear a hat or cap, to shield your head from the heat of the burners. Ladies with long hair, please ensure it is tied back securely, and not loose.
Things to BringPlease bring this booking confirmation with you for check-in. This document contains directions and important telephone numbers in the event that you require assistance on the morning. Please feel free to bring your camera and binoculars. These will need to be tucked away in your jacket during landing.

Customer Reviews

Good day, I can recommend it to anybody, it was really a wonderful experience for my husband and myself. We felt save all the time. It was a clear, bright sonny morning and wind still day and the breakfast afterwards was also very good! an experience that will last with us for many more years to come. Kind Regards - Jacoba Krause

Early December 2016 we embarked on a hot air balloon ride with Life Ballooning. The excitement grew as we watched the balloons getting inflated until we were ready for take off. The views over the Hartbeespoort Dam were breathtaking. The pilots, Flip and Conrad's, interesting stories they've encountered over the years made us laugh. The company must be complimented on their professionalism. Everything, from the day we made our booking up and till we left after a scrumptious breakfast, ran smoothly. If you want an unforgettable experience - book your hot air balloon flight with Life Ballooning today!!!!! - Estelle Trovato

I booked the flight to celebrate my husband's 60 birthday. We waited with baited breath the day before, not knowing whether the weather would allow us to fly or not. Just before 6 that evening, we received an SMS from Conrad, our pilot, informing us that the flight would take place and that we had to be at the launch sight between 04:45 and 05:15, the following morning. We were so excited, could hardly sleep. Getting up at "sparrows" was really easy though. On arrival, Carol had made provision for tea, coffee or hot chocolate for the twelve of us who were flying that day. The rest of the crew were busy inflating the hot air balloon. We were amazed at the size, in reality. After all twelve of us were in the basket, Conrad went through the safety drill and provisional flight plan with us. Moments later we were up and away. Quickly and quietly. Just before sun-rise. The view over the Hartebeespoort Dam and surrounds was amazing. Conrad made each moment special for us. The silence was only broken by the bursts of flame from time to time. All too soon, our hour was up and with a gentle bump, we landed on our feet. After helping to deflate and fold up the balloon, the ground crew took us all for breakfast, which was very tasty. I would recommend a trip like this any day. What an amazing and exhilarating experience. A big thank-you to all at Life Ballooning. Bernadette and Len - Bernadette Louise Gray
